RALEIGH, NC- The Shaw University women's tennis team defeated the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University Saturday afternoon at Pullen Park. The Lady Bears advance to 11-2 overall and 9-1 in CIAA play while the Golden Bulls begin their season with a 5-9.
In Saturday's first doubles match, Ana Ruzir and Jessica Medina defeated Rankin Anderson and Nichelle Heard for an 8-1 victory in the number one position. Gislanie Faris and Marilyne Kamegne teamed up for an 8-1 victory over Khadijha Battle and Victoria Ogundipe in the number two spot. JCSU's Kaylin Roman and Michaela Colvin won by default in the third position.
Medina, Farias and Kamegne carried the energy into singles play and earned wins over their opponents in their respective positions. Hailli Cooke was defeated by Amanda Pettway 6/3, 6/3. Shaw's Ana Ruzir defaulted to Victoria Ogundipe due to injury.
The Lady Bears returns to action on March 29th when they travel to Winston-Salem University for a 1:00pm match.
