GRIZZLE RUNS WILD; BECOMES SCHOOL'S ALL-TIME LEADING RUSHER AS SHAW DEFEATS THE RAMS IN DOUBLE OVERTIME, 32-25

Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.  – Marquise Grizzle (Camden, NC) scored off a 25-yard run on the second possession of overtime and Bruce Parker, Jr. (New York, NY) intercepted Winston-Salem State's Rod Tinsley's pass in the end zone, sending the Bears to a thrilling 32-25 victory over the Rams and spoiling their homecoming on Saturday in front of 15,000 fans at Bowman Gray Stadium.

Grizzle led the Bears with 209 rushing yards on 28 attempts – making school history by becoming the program's all-time leading rusher. He has surpassed Raymond Williams (3, 298) with 3, 513 total yards for his career thus far. Grizzle's touchdown run of the afternoon helped the Bears (1-8, 1-5 CIAA) dramatically end an eight-game losing streak.

Before today, the Bears had lost four-straight to WSSU (4-5, 4-2 CIAA), with the last win against the Rams in 2010.

The Bears rallied from a 15-12 halftime deficit to tie the game with a good 27-yard field goal from freshman Joe Nguyen (Charlotte, NC) in the third quarter before WSSU's William Johnson kicked a 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to take the lead back 18-15 at the 13:07 mark.

SU continued to show resilience as the Bears put Nguyen in a good position to nail a 36-yard field goal that would tie the game at 18-all and eventually go into overtime.

The wild overtime got started with Grizzle rushing for 55 yards to the Rams 20 yard line for a Bears first down and on the next play freshman Terrence Shambry II  (Chesapeake, VA) completed a 20 yard pass to sophomore Trevante Long (Greenbelt, MD) for a touchdown to take the lead 25-18.

WSSU would take over and score off of 12 plays to tie the game for the third time on the evening when Tinsley found open teammate Demeeko Jones in the end zone.

The Bears, however, made one more play on offense when it really counted as Grizzle bulled into the end zone from 25 yards out to give SU the 32-25 advantage.

Two plays later, Tinsley's pass was intercepted by Parker, Jr. at the Bears two-yard line to seal the victory.

Shaw finished with 506 yards (239 rushing, 267 passing) – the most all season for the Bears, while WSSU had 360 yards (188 rushing and 172 passing).

Shambry II finished 29-of-44 for 267 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, his most productive game of the season.

Senior Danny Webster, Jr.,  (New Bern, NC) led all receivers with 10 receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown, while Long finished tallied 87 yards on nine catches and one touchdown. Senior Atravius "Tray" James (College Park, GA) also caught three passes, including a touchdown reception in the second quarter for 33 yards on the day.

Defensively, senior Moses White (Gordan Heights, NY) led the Bears with nine tackles, including six solo and three assisted, while senior Tavarjia Fuller (Laurens, SC) added seven tackles, a sack and one for a loss.

The Bears will return home for their final contest of the 2015 season for homecoming and senior day against cross-town rival Saint Augustine's University. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
