RALEIGH, NC - The Lady Bears opened their tennis season with a 5-2 win over visiting Benedict Saturday afternoon.
The match opened with a sweep of the two doubles matches contested, with Claudia Silva and Gislaine Farias downing Glory Zhou and Esther Zelaya 8-2 at number one doubles. In the two slot, Jessica Medina and Menel Ben-Cheikh downed Belinda Camacho and Keneisha Whittington by an identical 8-2 score.
In singles, Silva won her match 6-0 in the first set before Zelaya retired. Medina defeated Zhou 6-1, 6-1, and at number three singles, Farias defense Dianna Perea 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Bears return to action Friday when they travel to Petersburg, Va., for a CIAA Roundup where they will face Virginia State, Elizabeth City State and Chowan.
