RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's tennis team finished their CIAA season undefeated as they swept Fayetteville State in a tennis doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Biltmore Hills Park.  The Lady Bears won both games 9-0. 

With the two wins, Shaw finishes the season 18-2 overall and 16-0 in the CIAA.  They will enter next week's CIAA Tennis Tournament as the number one seed.

In the first contest, the Lady Bears won every match and allowed the Lady Broncos to win just game. Top-seeded singles player Claudia Silva defeated Samantha Ledbetter 8-0. No. 2 seed Jessica Medina lost the only game of the matchup, but still cruised to an easy 8-1 win over FSU's Brittney Williams.

Shaw's Michelle Hart, Gislaine Farias and Menel Ben-Cheikh each defeated their opponents by a score of 8-0. Desiree Bell won her match at the No. 6 spot by default.

Shaw's duo of Medina and Hart defeated Ledbetter and Williams 8-0 in doubles action. Silva teamed with Farias and the two defeated FSU's Taylor Norris and Octavia Wynn 8-0. Bell and Ben-Cheikh won their doubles match by default, helping Shaw pick up the 9-0 victory.

In the second match of the afternoon, the Lady Bears didn't lose a single set as they swept the Lady Broncos. Silva picked up another 8-0 victory over Ledbetter. Medina was able to sweep Williams the second time around, winning her match 8-0. Hart, Farias and Bell all picked up more 8-0 victories for Shaw. Ben-Cheikh picked up the victory by default at the sixth spot.

In doubles action, Medina and Hart defeated Ledbetter and Williams 8-0. Silva and Farias shut out Wynn and Norris 8-0, while Bell and Ben-Cheikh won their doubles match by default.

The Lady Bears will now rest up before competing in the CIAA Spring Championships on Thursday, April 18 in Petersburg, Va.
