RALEIGH, N.C. - The top singles and doubles for the Shaw women's tennis team dominated visiting Johnson C. Smith, downing the Lady Golden Bulls 6-3 in matches played at Biltmore Hills Park Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Lady Bears improve to 11-2 on the season, and remain undefeated - opposite eight wins - in the CIAA.
Both the number one and number two doubles teams downed their JCSU counterparts 8-1. Jessica Medina and Michelle Hart combined for the win over Khadijah Battle and Rankin Anderson, while Gislaine Farias and Claudia Silva beat Keina Love and Samantha Barnes. At number three singles, Desiree Bell and Menel Ben-Cheickh fell to Felicia Akande and Nichelle Heard 8-0.
Shaw's top four singles all defeated their opponents in straight sets. Silva defeated Anderson 6-4, 6-0 at number one singles. At number two singles, Medina downed Love 6-0, 6-1. Hart topped Akande 6-0, 6-1 while Farias beat Battle 6-1, 6-1. Both Bell and Ben-Cheikh fell in straight sets to Heard and Barnes, respectively.
The Lady Bears are now off until April 3 when they play host to Coker at 3:00 p.m. at Biltmore Hills Park.
