[GREENSBORO, NC] - The Shaw women's tennis team opened their season with a foray into Division I and bringing home a 5-2 win over North Carolina A&T.

Shaw won the doubles competition by taking two of the three doubles matches.  Lolia Kienka paired with Jessica Perez in the number one doubles slot to defeat Cayla Cross and Azeib Nigatu 8-6.  Number two doubles pair Vimbai Mawisire and Aline Ferreria had a somewhat easier time in their match, downing Kimberly Stalling and Nianna Henry 8-3.

In singles action, Kienka defeated Cross 6-4, 6-4 in the number one slot.  Perez got the win at the number two position defeating Nigatu 6-1, 6-1.

Claudia Silva downed Kenya Colbert 6-1, 6-3 in number three singles and Mawisire defeated stalling 6-4, 6-4.

The Lady Bears return to action when they and the men's tennis team will travel to take on Pfeiffer Wednesday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m.
