WINSTON SALEM, N.C. - The Lady Bears volleyball team took a tough three-set loss at the hands of Winston-Salem State Monday evening in a match played at the C.E. Gaines Center on the WSSU campus.
The Lady Rams won the first set 25-16 and the second 25-19. Shaw rallied a bit in the third, but fell 25-20 in the third set.
With the loss, Shaw falls to 9-12, 5-9 in the CIAA. They are currently sitting in fourth place in the Southern Division - with only the top four spots in each division making the CIAA Tournament. WSSU improves to 7-19, 7-7 in the CIAA. They are in third in the Southern Division.
Crystal Gordon led the Lady Bears with 11 kills, Michelle Oliver and Arielle Fairley had nine digs apiece and Courtnee Kelly led Shaw with 18 assists.
The Lady Bears return to action Thursday when they host Virginia University-Lynchburg at 6:00 p.m. at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on the Shaw campus.
