(Raleigh, NC) - Three members of the Shaw University women's tennis team were today named to the All-CIAA Women's Tennis Team. In addition, the team was given the CIAA Academic Award for the women's tennis team with the highest GPA. The players received their awards at ceremony on the campus of Virginia State University on the eve of the opening round of the CIAA tennis championships.
Lolia Kienka (Jr., Lagos, Nigeria) finished the conference season undefeated with a 16-0 mark and 17-3 overall at the number one singles slot.
In the number two slot, Vimbai Mawisire (Jr., Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) was also undefeated in conference play at 16-0 and had a 17-0 record overall.
Evan Okafor (Sr., Lagos, Nigeria) competes for Shaw in the number four slot and finished the conference season with a 14-2 record, 14-5 overall.
As a team, the Lady Bears had a 3.44 GPA on the year.
The awards are voted on by the CIAA Tennis Coaches Association.
The Bears open post-season play Thursday at 11:00 a.m. when they take on Bowie State in the first round of the CIAA Championships. Play continues through Saturday.
