(Raleigh, NC) – Shaw's Kalada Kienka (right) and his sister Lolia (left) were today named CIAA Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. Last week, both players continued season-long winning streaks.
Kalada Kienka, a junior from Lagos, Nigeria, went 4-0 on the week, handily defeating opponents from Chowan, Bluefield State, Charleston, and Division I Norfolk State. In the eight sets in these matches, he dropped a total of four games. Kalada is 10-0 on the season in singles.
With partner Milos Stankovic, he is 8-2 in doubles on the season, including four wins in last week's matches. The Bears are 5-5 on the season.
Lolia Kienka, a sophomore from Lagos, Nigeria, continued her unbeaten singles streak, defeating opponents from Chowan and Norfolk State. She lost only five games in four sets on the week and brings her season singles record to 8-0.
With doubles partner Evan Okafor, she was 1-1 on the week, losing to their Division I opponents from Norfolk State. They are 6-2 on the season, matching the team's record.
Both the men's and women's tennis teams travel to Petersburg, VA for the CIAA Tennis Roundup on Friday and Saturday.
Both teams return home on Thursday, March 25, for a match against North Greenville University at 2:00 p.m. Shaw plays its home matches at Biltmore Hills Park at 2615 Fitzgerald Drive in Raleigh.
