Salma Luevano

Salma Luevano enters her third season as the Associate Head women's soccer coach and fourth overall on the coaching staff at Shaw University. 

Prior to joining the Lady Bears coaching staff, Luevano attended Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado, from 2014-2016.At OJC, Salma and the lady Rattlers won their first Region IX NJCAA championship in program history. Making it to two Region IX finals and first nationals' appearance with the lady Rattlers. 

After graduating and transferring to Shaw, Luevano served as a team captain from 2017-2019.  She was a part of Shaw's 2017 inaugural NCAA D2 team's season. In 2018, she helped lead the team that set a program record with a 12-4 overall record. During her last season she served as a player-coach due to injury as the Lady Bears finished 7-9 overall in 2019.  

Following the COVID-19 year, Luevano was announced as the new assistant by Head Coach Randy McClure, making her the first female soccer coach at Shaw.

In the Fall 2023, Luevano helped guide the lady bears to two championships: The NCAA D2 Independent Championship and the USCAA, United Small College Athletic Association, Championship. First for program history. Finishing the season with a new program best record of 16-4-1, beating the previous best when Luevano was on the team in 2018. 

Following graduation in 2016 from Otero Junior College, she earned her Associates Science Degree and earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science degree from Shaw University. 

A native of Zacatecas, Mexico, Luevano was raised in Aurora, Colorado. She currently resides in Raleigh, NC.
