Wykevin Bazemore

Whykevin Bazemore begins his first season as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Shaw University Athletics after previously serving five seasons on the Bears’ coaching staff, including five years as assistant coach and head coach of the Shaw JV program for three seasons.

A proven recruiter, player developer and rising leader in the collegiate ranks, Bazemore helped guide the Bears through multiple competitive CIAA campaigns while mentoring several all-conference performers and student-athletes both on and off the court. His energy, player relationships and deep understanding of the CIAA landscape have made him one of the conference’s emerging young coaches.

Prior to Shaw, Bazemore spent two seasons as an assistant coach at The University of Virginia's College at Wise where he worked with perimeter player development, scouting reports and recruiting coordination. Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, he served as an assistant varsity coach at Southern Alamance High School, assisting with game preparation, film breakdown and player development.

Bazemore also brings professional playing experience after spending a season overseas in León, Spain, where he led the league in scoring and rebounding while averaging 23.9 points and nine rebounds per game.

One of the most decorated players in Winston-Salem State University men’s basketball history, Bazemore was a four-year starter, three-year team captain and four-time CIAA All-Conference selection for the Rams. He became one of just four players in CIAA history to earn all-conference honors in four consecutive seasons.

During his standout career, Bazemore earned four BoxToRow All-American selections and helped lead WSSU to the 2011-12 CIAA Tournament championship while earning CIAA Freshman of the Year and National Black College Freshman of the Year honors. He appeared in three CIAA championship games and finished his collegiate career with 1,337 points and 984 rebounds, ranking among the all-time leaders in rebounds in program history.

Known for his passion, competitiveness and commitment to student-athlete success, Bazemore has quickly established himself as a respected young voice in HBCU basketball.

Bazemore earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Winston-Salem State University and has continued postgraduate studies in Information Technology at Strayer University. He and his wife Briana and family reside in Wake County.
