Andre George enters the 2024 season on the Shaw football staff as Running Backs Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, and Special Teams Coordinator.

This is George’s second stint at Shaw University. He was the defensive coordinator from 2016 to 2018. During his tenure, George helped to lay the foundation and execute the vision of Head Coach Adrian Jones program. In 2017 on defense, he led Devon Hunt (Linebacker), Jaleel Scroggins (Defensive Back), Kevin Sherman (Defensive Back), Keith Alston (Defensive Line) to All-CIAA Honors.

Upon his return in 2021, Coach George assisted in the Defensive Backfield, reuniting with 2021 All-CIAA performer Kevin Sherman.

In 2022, Coach George was named the wide receivers coach and Recruit Coordinator for the Bears. Here he developed key contributors Ah'Shaan Belcher and Jon Barnes.

Last year, in his first season as Running Backs Coach, George guided star Senior Running Back Sidney Gibbs. Gibbs rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns against Livingstone on Saturday October 21, 2023 in Salisbury, N.C. In the process, Gibbs became the all-time leading rusher in Shaw football history, totaling 3,326 yards.between ‘19-’23.

As the Recruit Coordinator, Coach George has helped to recruit over 90 students-athletes including just over 70 scholarship student-athletes.

Between his tenures at Shaw, George was the head football coach at Durham (N.C.) Riverside High School for one season drastically impacted by COVID measures (2020-21). He started his collegiate coaching career at North Carolina Central University, where he was the defensive backs coach and assistant special teams coordinator from 2010 to 2014.Here, Coach George developed young talents Ryan Smith and Mike Jones Jr, who would eventually go on to excel for NCCU and both play football professionally. Ryan Smith a Super Bowl winning Defensive Back (Tampa Bucs ‘16-’20), Mike Jones Jr playing for Canadian Football Leagues Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Montreal Alouettes, and BC Lions.

Prior to NCCU, he was the defensive backs coach and assistant defensive and special teams coordinator at Southern Durham (N.C.) High School from 2007 to 2009.

As a collegiate football player, George was a first-team All-CIAA defensive back, CIAA Champion and two-time captain at North Carolina Central. He graduated from NCCU with a public health education degree in 2007 and earned a Master of Public Administration from his alma mater in 2013.

A Columbia, Md., native, George is married to Dr. Krystal George. They are the proud parents of Haleigh (daughter, 17), Haiden (son, 11) and Harper (daughter, 10).
