RALEIGH, N.C. — Taelin Connolley had nine kills and four service aces as Shaw swept Lincoln (Pa.) 25-18, 25-10, 25-16 in CIAA volleyball action Monday night at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
Connolley hit .667, committing one error on 12 attacks. Kamaria Sanders added eight kills, while Justus Alexander finished with 11 assists, 11 digs and three aces. Jasmine Roberson led Shaw with 12 assists.
Shaw (1-9, 1-1 CIAA) opened the first set with a 10-5 lead, but Lincoln (Pa.) pulled within 20-18. The Bears answered with five straight points, closing the set on a Nevaeh Ortiz ace.
The Bears took control early in the second set, building a 10-4 advantage before stretching the lead to 17-5. Shaw hit .391 in the set, recording 13 kills against four errors, and Sydni Hunter delivered the final kill in a 25-10 win.
Shaw led 10-7 in the third before scoring five straight points to create separation. An Alexander ace sealed the sweep.
The Bears finished with 34 kills, 31 assists and 14 aces while holding Lincoln (Pa.) to nine kills and a minus-.081 hitting percentage. Ortiz contributed five kills, and Khori Viltz added two aces. Lincoln fell to 1-8 overall and 0-1 in the CIAA.
