Softball Shows Improvement at CIAA Roundup

RALEIGH, NC -  Shaw University softball showed noticeable progress over the weekend, competing with greater consistency and improved results at the 2026 CIAA Softball Roundup at Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

The Lady Bears opened play against Virginia State, holding an early 2-0 lead before falling 5-3. Shaw generated timely offense with multiple hits in the third inning, highlighting improved situational hitting despite the late setback.

Shaw responded with one of its strongest performances of the weekend, edging Elizabeth City State 4-3 in a tightly contested matchup. The Lady Bears followed with a commanding 10-3 victory over Bluefield State, showcasing offensive efficiency and the ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Later in the roundup, Shaw battled defending CIAA champion Bowie State in a competitive contest before falling 2-0, demonstrating continued growth against one of the league's top programs before dropping a 13-4 decision to Virginia Union who also had a productive weekend in Raleigh.

Shaw returns to the diamond Tuesday, March 31 as they host MACU at Worthdale Park. First pitch is slated for 1 PM.
