RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University football picked up two weekly conference awards following its 36–21 victory over Lincoln (PA), as defensive back Jaden Perkins and quarterback Alexander Marsh were recognized by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
Perkins was a defensive catalyst for the Bears, recording two interceptions that helped stifle Lincoln's comeback attempt. The junior also contributed multiple open-field tackles, displaying his versatility in both coverage and run support. His timely takeaways proved decisive in sealing Shaw's first conference win under head coach Lamar Manigo.
On the offensive side, freshman quarterback Marsh was named CIAA Rookie of the Week after delivering a breakout performance. He passed for 165 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 43 yards and a score, guiding the Bears to a commanding 22–0 lead by the third quarter. Marsh's poise and dual-threat ability energized the offense and provided a glimpse of Shaw's promising future under center.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, September 27, when they host defending CIAA champion Virginia Union at Durham County Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
