FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Shaw University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night against Methodist University at Duggins Soccer Stadium.
The Monarchs struck first in the 30th minute when Emy Cloutier converted to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. The Lady Bears responded in the 77th minute, as Lorena Gonzalez calmly buried a penalty kick to level the match at 1-1.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but Shaw's defensive group held strong, and goalkeeper Kadence Miller delivered a steady second-half performance to keep the Monarchs from reclaiming the lead.
With the result, Shaw moves to 1-2-2 on the season, while Methodist shifts to 1-0-3.
