RALEIGH, N.C. – The wait is finally over.
Shaw University football will open the 2025 season on Saturday, August 30, welcoming perennial power Albany State University to Durham County Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Manigo Era Begins
This match up marks the beginning of a new chapter in Shaw football history with Saturday being the first game under Head Coach
Lamar Manigo. After being introduced earlier this year, Manigo has spent the offseason reshaping the roster, energizing the program, and setting a new standard for the Bears as they prepare for the 2025 campaign. "This is an exciting time for Shaw football," said Manigo. "Our players have worked hard all spring and summer, and opening at home against a team like Albany State is the type of challenge we embrace."
A Familiar Opponent, A Thrilling Finish in 2024
Last season's clash between the Bears and the Golden Rams delivered fireworks, as the two programs battled in a back-and-forth contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. The Bears scored 27 points in the final stanza to come away with the 43-40 victory in Albany, GA including the game-winning touchdown from
Christian Peters to Manny Belcher with just under 10 seconds remaining.
Albany State: The Team to Beat
The Golden Rams enter 2025 with high expectations, having been tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the SIAC Championship. Known for their physical defense and explosive playmakers, Albany State will test Shaw in every phase of the game. Saturday's opener will serve as a measuring stick for the Bears as they look to set the tone for the Manigo era.
