Shaw University Names Jailynn Hunt as New Head Volleyball Coach

Shaw Alum and CIAA Champion Selected to Lead Program

RALEIGH, N.C. —   Shaw University is proud to announce the hiring of Jailynn Hunt as the new head coach of the Lady Bears women's volleyball program. A Shaw alumna and former standout outside hitter, Hunt returns to her alma mater bringing both passion and a proven track record of leadership. Shaw University


Hunt previously served as the head volleyball coach at Louisburg College, where she led the Hurricanes during the 2024 season. She graduated from Shaw University in 2021 with a degree in elementary education and was a key contributor on the court as a student-athlete, helping the Lady Bears secure the 2018 CIAA championship. Hunt finished her Shaw career with 345 total kills and 364 digs in just two seasons with the Lady Bears. 


Before joining Louisburg, Hunt served as the head and assistant coach at Carolina Advantage Volleyball Club in Durham, NC, where she has been coaching since 2019. Her responsibilities included physical training, practice planning, organizing travel arrangements, and interacting with parents, all of which showcased her leadership and organizational skills.


"It's an incredible honor to return to Shaw, a place that shaped me both as a player and a person," said Hunt. "I'm excited to build on the program's proud legacy and help our student-athletes grow on and off the court."


Shaw University Athletic Director George Know expressed enthusiasm about Hunt's appointment: "Jailynn embodies the spirit of Shaw Volleyball. Her leadership, competitive drive, and deep connection to our university make her the ideal choice to guide our volleyball program into its next chapter."


Hunt is married to Shaw alum Devon Hunt, a Bears football record holder, All-CIAA linebacker, and DPOTY. The couple has a two-year-old son and resides in Goldsboro, NC.


Hunt will begin her duties immediately, focusing on summer training, recruitment, and preparations for the upcoming season.
