RALEIGH, NC --Elisha Quinn nailed a dagger 3-pointer with 1:28 left in the game to put Shaw ahead 83-75, and the Lady Bears earned an 88-77 win over the Livingstone Blue Bears at home Saturday.
The Lady Bears (9-14, 6-7) had two players score in double figures, led by Quinn, who had 22 points. D'Ayzha Akinson tacked on 16 points and two steals and Zaniyyah Ross-Barnes added nine points, 13 rebounds, three steals and four blocks.
The Shaw offense was strong from three-point land, making eight threes on 21 attempts. Quinn hit five treys for the Lady Bears in the contest.
Shaw did a great job disrupting Livingstone shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Ross-Barnes' four rejections led the way individually for the Lady Bears.
How It Happened
After falling behind 20-7, Shaw went on a 6-0 run with 1:20 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Keibra Hopkins, to narrow its deficit to 20-13. Livingstone answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Bears down 22-13 entering the second quarter.
Livingstone kept adding to that lead, building a 38-19 advantage before Shaw went on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a three from Quinn, to narrow its deficit to 38-28. The Lady Bears continued to chip away, reducing the Livingstone lead to 40-33 heading into the break.
After intermission, Shaw cut its deficit to 41-36 before going on a 5-0 run to tie things up at 41 with 7:15 to go in the third. The Bears moved ahead of the Blue Bears and grabbed a 60-58 lead heading to the fourth. Shaw played well near the basket, scoring 16 of its 27 points in the paint.
The Blue Bears proceeded to tie things up at 62-62 before Shaw went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Kiara Shepherd's layup, to seize a 71-62 lead with 8:02 to go in the contest. The Bears kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 88-77 win. Shaw fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 28 points.
