RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team closed out October in dominant fashion, sweeping Livingstone College 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-22) Thursday evening inside historic Spaulding Gymnasium.
The Lady Bears improved to 10-9 overall and 8-5 in CIAA play, using a balanced offensive effort and efficient setting to control the match from start to finish.
Setter Kya Moore directed the offense with 27 assists while adding seven kills, two service aces, and four digs. Khamare Steppe was sharp at the net, tallying 10 kills on a .444 hitting percentage along with one block assist. MaKayla Brown followed with 11 kills, nine digs, and one block, while Makaylah Simmons added nine kills and five digs.
Defensively, Kalia Morris anchored the back row with a team-high 18 digs, helping limit the Blue Bears to a .010 attack percentage. Shaw finished the evening hitting .241 as a team with 41 kills and 52 digs.
The Lady Bears took the opening set 25-23 after a series of late kills from Brown and Simmons, then dominated the second frame 25-10 behind a 9-3 service run that included an ace from Moore. Livingstone battled in the third, but Steppe's late kills sealed the sweep for Shaw.
Shaw returns to action Monday, November 3rd as they host Claflin University on Senior Night. First serve is slated for 6:00 PM.
