DURHAM, NC – The Shaw University men's soccer team secured a solid 2-0 victory over Emory & Henry in a competitive opening seasons match on Thursday evening. The Bears showcased their defensive prowess and offensive strategy throughout the game, leaving Emory & Henry unable to break through Shaw's defense.
The first goal came early in the 65th minute of the second half with Kyle Hatmaker capitalizing on a well-placed penalty shot in the left corner. Shaw's second goal came in the 68th minute of the second half, when E&H misplayed a ball deep in Shaw territory and scored an own goal.
Shaw's defense stood firm throughout the match, with goalkeeper Carlos Granado making crucial stops to keep a clean sheet and ensure the win.
With this victory, Shaw University improves its record to 1-0-0, while Emory & Henry falls to 0-1-0 The Bears will look to continue their winning momentum in their next match against Saturday afternoon as they host Southern Wesleyan at 2 PM inside Durham County Stadium.
