Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University Bears football team is set to take on Albany State University on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in a much-anticipated non-conference matchup. The game will take place at Albany State's Coliseum Stadium in Albany, Georgia, with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET.
The contest can be viewed live on ESPN + with proper subscriptions.
The Bears, led by head coach Adrian Jones, are coming off a promising start to the season outlasting Elizabeth City State University 17-13 last weekend to earn its first season opening win in 2013 and look to build momentum as they take on the Albany State Golden Rams. This match up presents a key test for Shaw University as they aim to make a statement early in the season and also for the CIAA which went undefeated against the SIAC in last weekend's showdowns.
This will be the first match up between the two programs since August 30, 2008 when the Rams came away with a 27-10 win over the Bears also in Albany, GA.
"We know Albany State is a tough opponent, and we're preparing for a hard-fought game," said Coach Jones. "Our team has been working hard in practice, and we're excited for the opportunity to compete at a high level and keep the ball rolling."
ASU enters the game at 0-1 after falling to powerhouse Valdosta State 42-10 last Saturday. The Rams fell behind with early deficits of 14-0 and 21-3 before Valdosta State cruised to the victory. Albany State was out-gained on total offense 462-318 with most of the Blazers damage coming through the air as the finished with 327 passing yards.
