Shaw University Soccer Teams Set for Exciting Season Openers

Raleigh, NC – Shaw University's men's and women's soccer teams are set to kick off their highly anticipated 2024 seasons this week, with both teams determined to make strong starts.

Women's Soccer: Repeating History

Shaw University's women's soccer team will face Emory & Henry in their season opener on Thursday, September 5 at 5 PM inside Durham County Memorial Stadium. The Lady Bears will receive their USCAA National Championship and Independent Championship rings prior to the match at 4 PM.  Led by Head Coach Dr. Randy McClure with the assistance of Shaw alum Salma Luevano , the Lady Bears are looking to build on last season's successes, where they showed impressive growth and teamwork while earning both titles. The team has put in extensive training over the summer and is confident heading into the season.

"Our players are motivated and ready to take on the challenges of the season," said Coach McClure. "We have high expectations for this group, and I believe we'll see some great soccer from them."


Men's Soccer: Ready for Action

The Shaw University men's soccer team will open its season against Emory & Henry also on Thursday, September 5 at 7:30 PM. After a promising preseason, the Bears are ready to display their improved skillset under the leadership of Head Coach Dr. Randy McClure and assistant coach Bret Dixon. The team has worked tirelessly through the offseason to strengthen its defensive strategies and sharpen its offensive plays.

"We are excited to see how our players will perform this season," said Head Coach McClure. "We've had great energy in practice, and the team is hungry for success."

Looking Ahead

Both Shaw University soccer teams have challenging schedules this season, with both teams returning to action this coming Saturday. The Bears are hopeful that strong performances in their season openers will set the tone for the rest of the year.

MSOC vs Southern Wesleyan - 2 PM (Durham County Stadium)
WSOC @ Carolina University - 7 PM
