RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University football team is set to take on Lincoln University in their Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) opener this Saturday, September 21, 2024. The highly anticipated game will take place at Durham County Memorial Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM EST. The department of athletics has deemed Saturday's game Military/Organization Day.
Shaw leads the most recent series since both teams revived football 3-1 overall with the Bears coming away with an impressive 41-6 road victory in the last match up in 2021.
The Shaw Bears, coming off a promising start to the season sitting at 2-1 overall which is their best start since the 2013 season, are looking to continue their momentum as they enter this critical game. The Bears are looking to rebound from last week's 37-28 loss to Catawba College. In a back and forth game which was tied at 21-21 at the break, Catawba used a 9-0 spurt in the third quarter to pull away slightly in the second half. Shaw had multiple chances to push ahead in the fourth quarter but came away empty leading to their first defeat of the 2024 season.
Lincoln enters the game at 0-2 on the season after dropping back-to-back games against Clarion 20-9 and last week 52-6 to CIAA foe JCSU in a non-conference showdown. The Lions have struggled in the first half this season only scoring six points total in their four first half segments. Lincoln provides a dangerous passing attack with pre-season All-CIAA quarterback Isaiah Freeman. The Lions will need a stronger showing from their defense that has allowed an average 403.5 yards per contest
