ORANGEBURG, S.C. --Junior Breyanna Collins, freshman Ava Brown and freshman Sydra Pendleton combined to toss a shutout on Wednesday as the Claflin Panthers blanked the Shaw Bears 13-0.
Junior D'Amani Gadson started and took the loss in the circle for Shaw.
Offensively, the Lady Bears were paced by senior Bri'Anna Chavis, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a triple. Senior Syhia Marks compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 3-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Shaw managed three chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The Lady Bears last got a runner on third in the fifth, when Marks made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.

GAME 2 | Shaw 12, Claflin 7
ORANGEBURG, S.C. --Senior Syhia Marks was mowing people down on Wednesday, fanning nine Claflin hitters over seven innings of work to help lead the Shaw Bears past the Panthers 12-7.
In addition to her nine strikeouts, Marks tossed seven innings, giving up seven runs, six earned, on six hits and walking three for Shaw (8-21, 4-12).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Senior Nataya Truitt came across to score the lone run of the inning for Shaw and get them on the board.
The Lady Bears then held the Panthers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. The Shaw offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of freshman Paradise Andrews, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Bears.
Claflin narrowed Shaw's lead to 5-3 before the Lady Bears stretched the advantage to 9-3 in the fourth inning. The Lady Bears bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of junior D'Amani Gadson.
The Panthers fought back, closing the gap to 9-5 until Shaw added some insurance in the sixth. bringing the score to 12-5 in favor of Shaw. Claflin put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Lady Bears still coasted to the 12-7 win.
