Shaw Drops Twin Bill at Fayetteville State

FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Shaw Lady Bears softball team had a tough showing on Wednesday, falling to the Fayetteville State Broncos 9-1 despite the efforts of Armani Boozer, who went 1-for-2 with a double.

D'Amani Gadson started and took the loss in the circle for Shaw (5-15, 1-6). The right-hander went 3.2 innings, giving up six runs, zero earned, on four hits, allowing four walks and striking out four.

In the batter's box, the Bears were led by Boozer, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double. Syhia Marks compiled a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Bears put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Shaw got an RBI single from Marks, scoring Jaeda White from third base. The Lady Bears were unable to hold the lead, as Fayetteville State scored nine times over the remaining three innings to grab the 9-1 win.

The Shaw Lady Bears struggled on Wednesday, falling to the Fayetteville State Broncos by final score of 6-2.

Syhia Marks (2-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Shaw (5-16, 1-7).

A the plate, the Lady Bears were paced by Marks, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a walk.  Ayania Williams furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Shaw got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Shaw got an RBI single from Williams, scoring Marks from second base.

FSU then rallied to score six runs and take a 6-1 lead before the Bears got back on the board in the seventh. Paradise Andrews came across to score the lone run of the inning for Shaw, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Broncos. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.

GAME NOTES

» Shaw's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed one run across.
» Marks stole two bases in Wednesday's game.
» Shaw pitchers limited Fayetteville State to just 2-for-10 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
» Shaw pitchers faced 30 Fayetteville State hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and six fly balls while striking out seven.
» The Lady Bears drew five walks from Fayetteville State pitching.
» Marks led the Lady Bears at the plate, going 2-for-2.

Shaw returns to action Wednesday, April 18 as they take the short trip to William Peace University for a non-conference doubleheader scheduled for 3 PM and 5 PM.
