RALEIGH, NC --The Shaw men's basketball team held Fayetteville State to just 12.5 percent from beyond the arc in a 2-for-16 shooting performance on the way to a 76-63 victory against the Broncos at home Tuesday.
The Bears (11-10, 7-6) had three players score in double figures, led by DJÂ Thomas, who had 13 points. Trent McIntyre tacked on 11 points and eight rebounds and Ahmil Flowers helped out with 10 points from the bench.
Shaw out-rebounded Fayetteville State 40-38 in Tuesday's game, led by McIntyre's eight boards.
The Shaw defense held Fayetteville State shooters to just 30.5 percent from the field, including 12.5 percent from three-point range.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 21-17 advantage, Shaw went on a 5-0 run with 3:30 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Flowers, to increase its lead to 26-17. The Bears then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 31-24 advantage. Shaw got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 18 of its 31 total points.
Shaw started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Jamari Roberts' layup, to grow the lead to 42-24 with 16:14 to go in the contest. The Broncos narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bears still cruised the rest of the way for the 76-63 win. Shaw got out on the break in the period, scoring 12 fast break points.
