BALTIMORE, MD --The Shaw women's basketball team got a 16-point showing from the bench, but fell 71-45 to the Claflin Panthers at CFG Bank Arena Thursday in the 2024 CIAA Tournament Quarterfinals.
The Lady Bears (14-15) had two players score in double figures, led by Alexis Radcliff, who had 13 points. Elisha Quinn added 11 points off the bench and Lojain Elfatairy added six points.
How It Happened
Shaw struggled out of the gate, falling behind 22-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Bears continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 42-24 halftime deficit.
Claflin continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 52-33 advantage before Shaw went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Alliyah Chaplin, to trim its deficit to 52-38 with 1:30 to go in the third. Claflin countered and stretched its lead to 54-38 heading into the fourth. Shaw played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 14 points in the paint.
Shaw could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 71-45. Shaw fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down one shot to account for three of its seven points.
