DURHAM, North Carolina -- Shaw powered back from down 14 points to secure a 24-17 comeback homecoming victory over Livingstone Saturday afternoon at home at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
The Bears improved to 6-4 on the year and 4-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Blue Bears fell to 5-4 and 3-3.
Christian Peters led Shaw's passing attack with 178 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Travon Tensley paced the Bears rushing attack by accumulating 38 yards over the course of the game. Traquan Johnson also added 32 yards on the ground.
Peters' most prolific target in the ballgame was Ah'shaan Belcher, who caught five passes for 62 yards and one score.
Saevion Gibbs showed out for the Shaw defense, collecting four tackles and one interception. Noah Gibson added four tackles and one interception and Amon Tinsley had one interception in the win.
The Bears forced three turnovers in Saturday's contest, with Shaw turning those takeaways into 14 points. The Shaw offense did a good job keeping drives alive, converting on 47.1 percent of third-down attempts.
Defensively, Shaw held up fairly well against the Livingstone offensive attack, holding the Blue Bears to 278 total yards. The Bears defense disrupted the Livingstone passing game on the way to grabbing three interceptions and breaking up two Blue Bears passes.
How It Happened
Livingstone opened a 14-0 lead, but Shaw got on the scoreboard with 14:02 remaining in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 14-7 with a touchdown pass from Peters to Belcher.The Bears kept Livingstone off the scoreboard and followed with a touchdown to even the game at 14-14.
Shaw followed with a seven-yard touchdown reception from to at the :00 mark in the second quarter and took a 21-14 lead in the process.The Bears continued to expand their advantage, scoring again to go on top 24-14 with a Ben Turner field goal. Shaw didn't score again in the game and Livingstone added three more points to finish off the scoring.
