Shaw scores 40 points off of turnovers in 101-53 victory.

RALEIGH, NC --The Shaw men's basketball team scored 40 points off of turnovers on the way to a 101-53 win over Carolina Christian at home Wednesday.

The Bears (1-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Dreveon Scott, who had 21 points and three steals. Elijah Scranton tacked on 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals and Darius Abraham helped out with 16 points and three steals.

Shaw out-rebounded 48-19 in Wednesday's game, led by Scranton's seven boards. The Bears also pulled down 21 offensive rebounds and scored 21 second chance points.

The Shaw defense was a problem in Wednesday's game, forcing 27 turnovers while committing 17. Those takeaways turned into 40 points on the other end of the floor. Jermaine Vereen led the way individually for the Bears with four steals.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 38-13 advantage, Shaw went on a 14-0 run with 6:46 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Scott, to increase its lead to 52-13. The Bears then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 58-17 advantage. Shaw did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 32 of its 58 points close to the basket.

Shaw kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Vereen's jumper, to grow the lead to 64-19 with 18:23 to go in the contest. The Bears kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 101-53 win. Shaw took care of business in the paint, recording 30 of its 43 points in the lane.
