RALEIGH, NC --Jamari Roberts collected a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Shaw men's basketball team over the Livingstone Blue Bears 70-63 at home Saturday.
The Bears (9-7, 5-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Dj Thomas, who had 19 points and three steals. Roberts added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds and Kj West added eight points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Led by Roberts' four offensive rebounds, Shaw did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 18 boards that resulted in 10 second chance points.
Shaw did a great job disrupting Livingstone shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Roberts' three rejections led the way individually for the Bears.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 11-10 advantage, Shaw went on a 5-0 run with 13:06 left in the first half to increase its lead to 16-10. The Bears then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 28-24.
After intermission, Shaw managed to gain control and had a 36-35 lead before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Ahmil Flowers' three, to grow the lead to 43-35 with 13:05 to go in the contest. The Blue Bears narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bears still cruised the rest of the way icing the game at the free throw line for the 70-63 win. Shaw capitalized on eight Livingstone turnovers in the period, collecting 12 points off those turnovers.
