CENTRAL, SC - For the second straight day, the Shaw men's soccer team shut out an opponent by a 5-0 score.
On Tuesday, the Bears defeated Carlow with an impressive performance at home. They continued to roll on Wednesday, this time on the road in a win over Southern Wesleyan at Childs Field.
Five different players scored for Shaw, which stayed unbeaten at 3-0-1 overall.
Nathan Skeete and
Zamal Mallebranche set the tone in the first 12 minutes by scoring a goal each for a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Bears finished off Southern Wesleyan with three second half goals. Joseph Hoslerson scored on assist by
Jesse Salas, and
Kyle Hatmaker and
Tanas Thorne each scored a goal.
Goalkeeper
Pablo Bas Colomer recorded seven saves for the Bears, who won despite taking less shots (17-19) and less corner kicks (3-5). Both teams committed 11 fouls. Southern Wesleyan had two yellow cards and Shaw had one.
The Bears will host King at Durham County Memorial Stadium in Durham, N.C., on Saturday, Sept. 9, before traveling to Washington Adventist in Takoma Park, Md., on Sunday, Sept. 10. Both matches will start at 7 p.m.
