Lady Bears Host WSSU Tuesday, Visit Fayetteville State Thursday

RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw volleyball team has two key CIAA Southern Division matches this week, starting with Tuesday's home matchup against Winston-Salem State inside historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium at 6 p.m. On Thursday, the Lady Bears venture to Fayetteville State for a road match against the Broncos inside Capel Arena at 6 p.m.

All three teams reached the CIAA Tournament semifinals last season with the Lady Bears advancing to the title match. Each team is expected to be a contender for the Southern Division title and CIAA championship.

SHAW (10-4 overall, 3-0 CIAA): Despite two straight losses in the ShawU Invitational which snapped a nine-match win streak, the Lady Bears enter this week undefeated in the CIAA after wins against Livingstone, Saint Augustine's and Claflin last week…They currently lead the Southern Division…Shaw leads the CIAA in points per set, hitting percentage, assists per set and kills per set…Lilliam Carlson and Noelani Beard are ranked among the CIAA's top 10 in kills per set…Kamille Patrick, Khamare Steppe and Beard rank among the CIAA's top 5 in hitting percentage…Lauren Janok leads the CIAA in assists per set…Patrick ranks second in service aces per set and seventh in blocks in the CIAA…Jasmine Culp ranks second in the conference in assists per set…

WSSU (2-5 overall, 0-0 CIAA): The match against Shaw is the CIAA opener for the Rams, who are on a two-match losing streak…The Rams give up the least amount of blocks per set among CIAA teams…Raven Gray is the CIAA leader in kills per set and points per set…Brooke Norwood ranks 10th in the CIAA in hitting percentage…Kalyn Cuthbertson ranks third in the CIAA in digs per set…

FSU (3-9 overall, 0-0 CIAA): The Broncos enter the match against Shaw on a three-match losing streak…The match against Shaw is the CIAA opener for the Broncos…Cassandra Watson ranks seventh in the CIAA in kills per set and ninth in points per set…A'Lexus Everett ranks sixth in the CIAA in hitting percentage…Jordan Johnson ranks eighth in the CIAA in digs per set…
