SALISBURY, N.C. (April 15) - The Shaw University women's tennis team took both matches of a CIAA doubleheader against Livingstone on Saturday to finish conference play for the season. The scores were 6-0 in the first match and 4-0 in the second match.
The Lady Bears, who clinched the CIAA Southern Division, are a sparkling 10-0 in the conference and 11-3 overall. They close out the regular season against Division I N.C. A&T State at Worthdale Park on April 17 at 12 p.m. before heading to the CIAA Championships, which will be held in Ettrick, Va., on April 21-22. Shaw is the four-time defending CIAA champion.
In Saturday's first match, the Shaw singles winners were
Dana Moreno at No. 1 (8-1),
Prerana Koirala at No. 2 (8-0),
Anja Antonijevic at No. 3 (8-0),
Jessa Michieli at No. 4 (8-0) and
Hafsa Sanhaji at No. 5 (8-0). The doubles winners were Moreno and Koirala at No. 1 (6-0), Antonijevic and
Sevval Ozseker at No. 2 (6-0) and Michieli and Kumari at No. 3 (6-0) for the doubles point.
In the second match, the singles winners were Antonijevic at No. 3 (8-0), Michieli at No. 4 (8-0) and Sanhaji at No. 5 (8-0). The teams of Antonijevic and
Sevval Ozseker at No. 2 (6-0) and Michieli and Kumari at No. 3 (6-0) scored the doubles point for the Lady Bears.
