WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 1) - The Shaw University women's tennis team blanked Winston-Salem State 4-0 on Saturday to remain undefeated in the CIAA.
The Lady Bears (7-0 CIAA, 7-2 overall) won three singles matches and two doubles matches for the other point. The singles winners were
Prerana Koirala,
Anja Antonijevic and
Chetna Kumari in the No. 2, 3 and 5 matches, respectively. Koirala won 6-0, 6-1 while both Antonijevic and Kumari were victorious 6-0, 6-0.
Hafsa Sanhaji was leading No. 6 singles 6-1, 4-1 when the match ended.
The No. 2 doubles team of
Sevval Ozseker and Antonijevic and the No. 3 tandem of Kumari and Michielli both won 6-0 in their matches. The No. 1 duo of
Dana Moreno and Koirala was leading 5-2 when doubles play ended.
Shaw swept the season series against WSSU (2-2 CIAA, 5-4 overall). In their prior meeting on March 4, the Lady Bears won 4-0 in Raleigh, N.C.
The Lady Bears, the four-time defending CIAA champs, are back in action Monday (April 3) at home in a non-conference match against Benedict. The starting time is 2 p.m. at Worthdale Park.
