BOWIE, MD --The Shaw men's basketball team held Bowie State to just 16.7 percent from deep in a 2-for-12 shooting performance, but fell 62-59 to the Bulldogs on the road Saturday.
The Bears (13-11, 6-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Jamari Roberts, who had 14 points. Jason Robinson added 11 points and nine rebounds and Caleb Simmons chipped in as well with 10 points off of the bench.
How It Happened
Shaw started off strong, putting together a 30-28 lead heading into halftime. Shaw got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 13 of its 30 total points.
The Bulldogs proceeded to tie things up at 42-42 before Shaw went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Simmons' layup, to seize a 47-42 lead with 11:59 to go in the contest. Bowie State then asserted control, outscoring the Bears 20-12 the rest of the way to hand Shaw the 62-59 loss. Shaw shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting four shots from deep to score 12 of its 29 points.
