ORANGEBURG, SC -- The Shaw Lady Bears took a 3-2 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 4-3 to the Clark Atlanta Panthers Saturday in the CIAA/SIAC Challenge.
Sophomore D'Amani Gadson was impressive despite the pitching loss. The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits, allowing five walks and striking out 10.
Junior Krystal Walker led the way offensively for the Lady Bears, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Bri'Anna Chavis furnished a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Nataya Truitt also contributed, going 1-for-3 for Shaw with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Bears were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Freshman Syhia Marks came across to score the lone run of the inning for Shaw and get the Lady Bears on the board.
The Panthers broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the sixth inning, when the Lady Bears got back on the scoreboard. Shaw brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Chavis' single, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Lady Bears. The Lady Bears were unable to hold the lead, as Clark Atlanta scored on a two-run RBI in the seventh inning with two outs to grab the 4-3 win.
