Flowers and Siago lead Shaw past Mount Olive 81-78

MOUNT OLIVE, NC --Ahmil Flowers scored 22 points and Shayne Siago added 20 and the Shaw men's basketball team beat the Mount Olive Trojans 81-78 on the road Tuesday.

The Bears (3-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Flowers, who had 22 points and three blocks. Siago tacked on 20 points and DJ Thomas chipped in as well with 16 points from the bench.

Shaw took advantage of excellent ball movement in Tuesday's game, piling up 15 assists on 26 made field goals. Individually, Doriuntas Barnes led the way for the Bears with three assists.

Shaw did a great job disrupting Mount Olive shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Flowers' three rejections led the way individually for the Bears.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 36-31 advantage, Shaw went on an 8-0 run with 1:59 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Thomas, to increase its lead to 44-31, a score that would hold until halftime. Shaw capitalized on eight Mount Olive turnovers in the period, turning them into 12 points on the other end of the floor.

The Trojans proceeded to tie things up at 73-73 before Shaw went on a 5-0 run to seize a 78-73 lead with 21 seconds to go in the contest. The Trojans narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bears still held on for the 81-78 win. Shaw got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 22 of its 37 total points.

» The Bears shot well from three point range, knocking down six of 15 long range attempts.
» The Shaw bench came alive by adding 48 points to its scoring output.
» The Shaw defense forced 13 turnovers.
