DAYTONA BEACH, FL --The Shaw men's basketball team got a 49-point performance from the bench, but fell 105-87 to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at ICI Center Saturday.
The Bears (4-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Jamari Roberts, who had 16 points. Darius Abraham added 12 points off of the bench and Shayne Saigo chipped in as well with 11 points and two steals.
Led by Roberts' three offensive rebounds, Shaw did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in 11 second chance points.
Shaw did a great job disrupting Palm Beach Atlantic shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Dreveon Scott led the way individually for the Bears with two rejections.
How It Happened
Shaw struggled out of the gate, but kept things close trailing by scores of 21-20 and 35-33 before falling behind 54-44 heading into halftime following a PBA spurt.
Shaw could not pull any closer in the second half as the Sailfish lead grew to 17 eliminating any chance at a second half comeback by the Bears for the second straight contest. The PBA led swelled up to 20 with just over five minutes left in the contest making the final score 105-87 after a late Shaw basket.
Shaw got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 27 of its 43 total points.
