RALEIGH, NC -- Sidney Gibbs scored on a four-yard touchdown run with 8:41 left in the game for a 21-14 Raleigh Classic win over Saint Augustine's on Saturday afternoon at the George Williams Athletic Complex. The Bears defeated the Falcons for the second straight year and are 5-2 overall since the crosstown rivalry was dubbed the Raleigh Classic.
The Bears ended the season 3-7 overall and 3-5 in the CIAA. The Falcons fell to 0-10 overall and 0-8 in the CIAA.
- Navian Hillard led Shaw's passing attack with 151 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception.
- Sidney Gibbs totaled 68 yards to lead the Bears' ground attack and added one touchdown in the game, picking up 4 yards per carry along the way. Hillard tacked on 14 yards on the ground, picking up 4.7 yards per carry.
- Donte Lee Jr. hauled in two catches for 40 yards and one score.
- Akeythio Carson paced Shaw's defensive effort with 14 tackles including two tackles for loss. Brian Patterson recorded six tackles, one tackle for loss, and one sack. Jamyson Boyd contributed seven tackles and Savion Gibbs finished with six tackles including four tackles for loss.
How It Happened
Shaw took a 7-0 lead over Saint Augustine's after scoring the game's first points with 6:59 left in the first quarter. Saint Augustine's scored to go ahead 14-7 in fourth quarter before the Bears scored again to tie things up at 14-14.
A touchdown by Gibbs at the 8:41 mark in the fourth quarter gave Shaw a 21-14 lead. The Bears stopped a late Shaw drive in Shaw territory to preserve the win.
