The Bears

Shaw (0-1) enters Saturday's contest following a 21-7 defeat to Wingate in their season opener last Saturday afternoon. With the game tied at 7-7 entering the final 15 minutes of play, Wingate used two pivotal plays to pull away featuring a 55-yard bomb followed by turning a Bears turnover into another score inside the 10-yard line. The Bears mounted a comeback driving inside the Bulldogs 10-yard line before a bad snap ended the threat. R.So Ah'Shaan Belcher was a bright spot on offense collecting six catches for 143 yards and one touchdown. His performance was enough for him to earn CIAA Receiver of the Week honors.

Shaw received a surprise boost on defense from freshman Elijah Wilson who intercepted two Wingate passes in his collegiate debut. Jaden Clark added another interception as Shaw came away with three total for the game for the first time since 2019. Kareem Butler and Akeythio Carson led the Shaw defense with seven tackles each. Carson was also credited with a PBU.

Wayne State

Wayne State (0-1) will be looking to right the ship after falling to Slippery Rock 42-10 Saturday on the road. The Warriors fell behind early 21-0 after the first quarter and found themselves trailing 35-3 at the half. Wayne State was outgained 407-241 for the game while outrushing Slippery Rock 137-131. Wayne State was held to just 104 yards through the air while the Warriors defense allowed just over 7 yards per play including drives of 99 and 77 yards.
