Box Score Mt.Olive, NC - The Shaw University Lady Bears volleyball team showed great effort but eventually fell to host University of Mt. Olive 3-0 in straight sets Tuesday evening inside Kornegay Arena.
Shaw's record slips to 2-6 with the loss while UMO improves to 4-5.
How It Happened
Set 1 - After jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead, Shaw quickly fell behind 6-3 before tying the set at 9 all. Another Shaw run was silenced by the Trojans who pushed ahead 20-17 before eventually pulling away for the 25-18 win.
Set 2 - UMO controlled almost every point in the second set building leads of 8-3, 16-8 before the Lady Bears mounted a fierce comeback to slice the UMO advantage to 18-16. That would be as close as Shaw could get as the Trojans responded to close out the set 25-21 to go ahead 2-0.
Set 3 - Shaw found themselves trailing 10-6 early on before trimming their deficit to 10-9. The Lady Bears eventually pulled ahead 14-12 after a kill from Amari Earl. UMO answered with a 5-0 run to go back in front 17-14. Shaw battled back to tie the set at 22-22 before the set of runs continued as a 3-0 spurt from the Trojans closed out the set at 25-22 and the match 3-0.
