Shaw held the advantage through the air 250-102 but the Warriors were able to control the rushing attack outrushing the Bears 254-160. The Bears also lost the turnover battle 2-0 with both miscues resulting in points for Wayne State. Christian Peters leads Shaw in passing with 466 yards and two touchdowns completing 50% of his passes so far. Sidney Gibbs leads a strong rushing core with 150 yards and one touchdown including a 29-yard score last week. Ah'shaan Belcher remains Peters's top target with 8 receptions for 221 yards while Jon Barnes has emerged as a second threat with six receptions for 110 yards and one score. On defense, Akeythio Carson leads Shaw with 14 stops including 2.5 tackles for loss. Jay Boyd and Joerail White both follow with 13 each. Elijah Wilson tops the Bears in interceptions with two.

The Bulldogs (1-1) make their first of back-to-back trips to North Carolina looking to recover from a 40-12 defeat against nationally ranked Saginaw Valley State last Saturday. Bowie State enters the contest ranked 20th dropping a few spots after Saturday's defeat. The Bulldogs are led by one of the top passers so far in the CIAA in Dion Golatt, Jr who has thrown for 579 yards and five touchdowns while throwing just one interception.
