Box Score Raleigh, NC - The Shaw University volleyball team continued its hot play at home Thursday evening as they defeated the visiting Lincoln University Lions 3-0 in the CIAA opener for both teams inside historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
With the win, the Lady Bears improve to 4-6 overall and 1-0 in the CIAA while the Lions fall to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in CIAA action.
Shaw used a balanced attack throughout the match as seven different Lady Bears registered at least two kills or more. As a team, Shaw finished with 34 kills with Noelani Beard leading the way with 11 followed by Mallory Brown with 9. Shaw finished with a .270 hitting percentage while holding Lincoln to just .089 %. Breelyn Clark again led in the assists department with 18 while Anna Ney added 9 in the third set alone. Eight different Lady Bears finished with digs.
Shaw jumped ahead 1-0 after winning the first set 25-14. The second set would be a battle as Shaw trailed for the majority of the set before rallying to tie the score at 22 all. The Lady Bears closed out the set on a 3-0 run to go ahead 2-0 in the match after winning the second stanza 25-22. The final set began tight with Shaw leading 8-6 before the Lions tied the set at 8-8. Shaw pulled away for good with a run pushing its lead to 16-9 followed by an eight-point lead at 21-13 before ending all hopes of a Lions comeback winning 25-14.
The Lady Bears return to the court Monday, September 19 as they travel to Virginia Union. First serve is slated for 6 PM.
