Box Score Fairmont, WV - The Shaw University Lady Bears volleyball team battled tough through the first two sets before eventually bowing out in the third set dropping a 3-0 decision to Fairmont State on the road Tuesday evening.
Shaw's record falls to 2-2 with the loss while Fairmont State remains a perfect 5-0.
How It Happened
Set 1 - The match opened up even with the scoreboard reading 10-10 before FSU pulled away slightly 18-14. The Lady Bears would get as close as 23-19 before dropping the opening set 25-20.
Set 2 - The next set would be a true battle from the beginning to the end with Shaw jumping ahead with scores of 10-6 and 20-15. At that point, FSU mounted a furious comeback tying the set at 22 all. Shaw inched back ahead 24-22 before allowing the Falcons to push ahead 27-26 before earning the two-point victory over the Lady Bears 29-27.
Set 3 - After dropping the heartbreaking second set, Shaw came out a bit slow in the final set falling behind 7-3 before seeing their deficit grow to 20-13. The Lady Bears were never able to recover as FSU cruised to their biggest set win of the night to close out the match winning the third set 25-16.

The Lady Bears travel south to Ft. Lauderdale, FL to participate in the Nova Southeastern Tournament starting on Friday, Sept 2 as Shaw faces American International at 12 PM followed by host NSU at 7 PM.
