Box Score Shepherdstown, WV - The Shaw University Lady Bears volleyball team put on an impressive showcase in their season opener as they raced out to an early 2-0 lead before closing out Felician 3-1 Friday evening on the opening day of the Ram Rumble at Shepherd University.
Shaw opens the early season at 1-0 while Felician falls to 0-1.
How It Happened
Set 1 - Shaw battled back from 3-0 down to take a 6-5 lead before pulling ahead 16-13. The Lady Bears biggest lead came at 21-15 before Felician closed in making the score 24-21 before a kill from Kamille Patrick closed out the first set putting Shaw ahead 1-0.
Set 2 - The set started out close at 5-5 before a 4-0 Shaw run put the Lady Bears on top 9-5. Shaw dominated the second stanza building leads of 14-7 followed by 19-9 before pulling ahead 2-0 winning the second set 25-15.
Set 3 - Like the first set, Felician jumped out to a big lead early but this time Shaw was unable to recover. The Lady Bears trailed 5-0 before regrouping to trim their deficit to 8-6. Felician responded to go back on top by 20-12 before another Shaw run made it interesting but Felician remained in control defeating the Lady Bears 25-20.
Set 4 - The momentum stayed on the opponent's side as they once again pushed ahead early 5-1. Six straight points from the Lady Bears forced a Felician timeout with Shaw ahead 7-5 after a kill from Ilani Myers. With the set tied at 9-9, the Lady Bears pieced together a 10-1 run to go ahead 19-10 setting up the final push to win the fourth set 25-15 and the match 3-1.
