Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University volleyball team produced a valiant effort but eventually fell to Barton College 3-0 in the 2021 season opener for both squads Thursday evening inside Wilson Gymnasium in Wilson, NC.  Shaw fell in straight sets 25-14, 26-24 and finally 27-25.

Things remained close during the first set before the Bulldogs reeled off a run to close out the first set. The Lady Bears followed by pushing Barton to extra points in the final two sets in front of a raucous Bulldog home crowd.

Kamille Patrick led Shaw with 12 kills for the match. Breelyn Clark provided 22 assists at the setter position. The Lady Bears were held to a 0.45 hitting percentage and committed 16 service errors. Allison Gambill paced the Bulldogs with 15 kills.

Shaw returns to the court Tuesday September 7 when they take the short trip across town to rival St. Augustine's for two matches against West Virginia State at 2 p.m. and the host Falcons at 6 p.m.
