Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University volleyball team battled tough but eventually fell to the University of Mount Olive Trojans 3-1 Friday evening inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

Shaw falls to 1-3 on the season while UMO improves to 4-1 winning their third straight match.

All four sets were competitive with UMO holding leads of 16-14 and 21-19 before winning the opening set 25-19. After being tied 8-8 in the second set, UMO jumped ahead 16-11 before closing out the set 25-17. Shaw led almost the entire third set cruising to a 25-18 win in set three.

The final set again started out close as the score was tied at 10-10 before a Trojans run put UMO up 14-10 putting them in control the rest of the set for a 25-15 close-out win to take the match 3-1.

Both squads won't have to wait long for the rematch as Shaw is set to travel to Mt. Olive, NC Tuesday, September 14. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. inside Kornegay Arena.
