Box Score Raleigh, NC - The Shaw University volleyball team remained in control of their own destiny for conference tournament play seeding following a 3-0 sweep over visiting Virginia State University Thursday night inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division match.
The Lady Bears completed the sweep winning the three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-21, and the third and final set 25-17.
Shaw finished the match with a .300 hitting percentage while limiting VSU to a .130 percentage on the opposite end. The Lady Bears were able to hold the Trojans to a match-low .056 percentage during the third and final set.
Mallory Brown paced the Lady Bears with 12 kills followed closely by Noelani Beard and Paige Worden with 11 and 10 respectively. Breelyn Clark led the way in assist with 37 total while Kaylin Evans posted 12 digs with Clark adding seven also. As a team, the Lady Bears tallied eight service aces. Helena Eubanks led VSU with seven kills for the match while Najlaa Williams finished with a match-high 14 digs for the Trojans.
The Lady Bears return to action on Monday, November 1 when Shaw will take on the Bowie State University Bulldogs in a Northern Divison matchup inside Spaulding Gymnasium. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
