Box Score Richmond, VA – The visiting Shaw University volleyball team used a shocking opening set defeat to fuel their way to a 3-1 victory or the Virginia Union University Panthers Thursday evening inside Barco Stevens Hall in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division contest.
With the win, Shaw ups its record to 11-5 overall, 10-1 in the CIAA while VUU drops to 4-10 overall and 3-6.
VUU won the opening set 25-23 while Shaw ran off the last three sets by scores of 25-15,25-21 and 25-23 in the fourth and final set.
The Lady Bears finished with a .207 overall hitting percentage while limiting the host Panthers to just .055. Mallory Brown led Shaw in kills with 17 on the match followed by Noelani Beard and Kamille Patrick with 16 and 15 respectively.
Breelyn Clark added a season-high 46 career. Four different Lady Bears registered double-digit digs for the match with Beard leading the way with 17 while Jessica Kelley added 15 along with Clark and Brown chipping in with 14 digs each.
Shaw finally ends their road trip with a crucial home match against the Elizabeth City State University Vikings Monday, Oct 25. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
